Officiating Requirements

2023-2024 Season Officiating Requirements:

In order to be a USA Hockey certified official, the following steps must be completed prior to October 31st, 2023:

• Register with USA Hockey
• Complete required background screening **
• Complete required SafeSport training **
• Complete open book exam
• Complete online modules (if applicable)
• Complete classroom seminar
• Register with CAHOA
• Register with HorizonWebRef

Details:

1. USA Hockey Registration: Annual registration required.
2. Background Screening: Screening is required every two years. Once you have established a USA Hockey profile, you can see if this requirement is due. **Only applicable to officials 18 years or older**.
3. Safesport Training: Training is required every year to maintain certification. **Only applicable to officials 18 years or older**.
4. Open Book Exam: Required annually, rulebook will be mailed following registration for any official new to USA Hockey.
5. Online Modules: Required annually, accessible online and catered to complete at your own pace.
6. Officials Seminar: Required annually, depending on level of certification or recertification, this may include in person classroom session, online virtual session, or a combination of both.
7. Register with Colorado Amateur Hockey Officials Association (CAHOA): Required annually, this is mandated by CAHA and membership is required to be eligible to work youth hockey games. Registration form is attached under the Officiating Links section.
8. Register with HorizonWebRef: One time registration, this provides officials with access to the scheduling system used by a majority of the associations in Colorado. Assocation code used to register is 205417.
